The teahouse Shokin-Tei of the Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto, designed by master architect Kobori Enshu (1579-1647). Note that the only structural element visible inside, the slim post (5) next to the fireplace (4) is a raw tree trunk. The naturally twisted shape counterbalances the plain geometrical layout of the space and provides a strong physical element that relates the whole structure to human bodily presence.
